A reliable workflow is: set the rhythmic brief, generate several short ideas, keep the strongest kick-and-snare grid, replace weak sections, and finish the arrangement and mix manually.
Define The Footwork Brief Before You Generate
Footwork depends on speed, space and interruption. Write a brief that gives the model musical jobs rather than only naming the genre:
- Tempo: about 160 BPM, with a halftime-feeling snare option for contrast.
- Drums: syncopated kicks, shuffled hats, sudden mutes and short fills.
- Bass: a short sub pattern that leaves gaps for the kick.
- Harmony: sparse, tense chords or a two-note motif rather than a dense progression.
- Vocal material: tiny, repeatable syllables or one-shot phrases that can be chopped and re-pitched.
- Arrangement: an eight-bar intro, two contrasting 16-bar sections, a breakdown and a final variation.
Use a prompt such as: “Instrumental footwork club track, around 160 BPM, syncopated kick and snare grid, shuffled hi-hats, sparse sub bass, chopped one-syllable vocal stabs, tense two-note synth motif, abrupt mutes, eight-bar intro and 16-bar sections, leave space for my own drum edits.” Treat the genre description as a creative brief; confirm that the output actually has the rhythmic density and pauses you need.
Choose A Workspace For Your Workflow
| Tool | Useful Fit For Footwork | Export Or Editing Evidence | Limits To Check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beat Shaper | Drums, basslines, synths, loops and arrangements with genre, energy and syncopation controls | MIDI, WAV, MP3, stems and DAW project export | Browser-based; Starter downloads are MP3 and non-commercial; Ableton Live project export and real-time MIDI require Producer |
| Soundverse AI Beat Maker | Complete instrumental sketches with drums, basslines, melodies and arrangements | WAV mixes, separated stems and MIDI; web, iOS and Android with a browser multitrack studio | Free Tier starts with 1,000 tokens; its focus is complete instrumentals rather than one-bar loops |
| InsMelo AI Beat Maker | Text prompts with genre, BPM, mood and structure controls | MP3, WAV, MIDI and separate stems; beat extension and track separation | Free plan has 3.9 credits; commercial rights depend on subscription or license terms |
| Suno | Fast full-song or instrumental ideation when you want vocals and arrangement in one workspace | Editing, remixing, extensions, section replacement and stem export are listed | Free Plan has no commercial rights or stem separation; Pro downloads are limited to 20 songs per month |
| Eleven Music | Detailed song editing, instrumental generation and producer-oriented revisions | Section editing, inpainting, audio references, stems and MP3/WAV exports | Free use is personal; commercial rights vary by plan and exclude film, TV and studio games |
Build The First Drum And Bass Sketch
- Open Beat Shaper, Soundverse AI Beat Maker or InsMelo AI Beat Maker and start with an instrumental setting.
- Paste the footwork brief, then specify one constraint per generation: first drums, then bass, then the synth or vocal-stab layer. This makes it easier to reject a good-sounding idea with the wrong groove.
- Generate several variations and label them by the rhythmic feature you hear, such as “dense hats” or “long kick gaps.” Keep the version with the clearest spaces between low-end hits.
- In Beat Shaper, use the piano roll to move kicks and trim notes; its controls include syncopation, genre, mood and energy. In InsMelo, set BPM and structure before generating. In Soundverse, use the multitrack view after generation to inspect the instrumental parts.
- Export MIDI when you want to rewrite the pattern in a DAW. Export stems when you want to keep the generated drum, bass and melodic layers separate. Choose WAV for mix work where the tool provides it.
Turn A Loop Into A Footwork Arrangement
- Make the opening eight bars sparse: use a filtered drum layer and one short motif.
- Bring in the full kick pattern for 16 bars, then remove the kick or bass for a one- or two-bar interruption before the next phrase.
- Create a second 16-bar section by changing only one major element, such as the hat density or vocal-stab rhythm. Footwork stays energetic when the grid changes without adding many new instruments.
- Add a breakdown with the sub muted, then return with a different kick pickup or a reversed vocal hit made from material you are allowed to use.
- Use section replacement, extension or inpainting where the selected service provides it. Suno lists section replacement and extensions; Eleven Music lists section editing and inpainting. If your account does not expose the control, render the section and edit it in your DAW.
Add Vocal Chops Without Losing Consent
Generate an instrumental first, then add short vocal material. If you upload a voice, lyric, sample or reference recording, obtain the required permission from its owner and follow the platform’s terms. Do not imitate a recognizable person’s voice without authorization.

- Use a two- or three-syllable phrase and ask for isolated, percussive stabs.
- Cut the phrase into one-syllable hits, place them off the main beat and leave several bars silent.
- Pitch or reverse only copies you have permission to modify. Keep the dry source separate so you can remove it later.
- For Suno, remember that the Free Plan does not include commercial rights. Eleven Music’s free use is personal, and its commercial rights vary by plan. Check the current terms before releasing any vocal output.
Finish The Mix And Export
- High-pass non-bass parts, then check that the kick and sub do not play long overlapping notes.
- Automate mutes and short delays at phrase boundaries; these gaps are part of the groove.
- Compare the arrangement at low volume. If the kick pattern disappears, simplify the bass before adding loudness.
- Export a full mix plus separate stems or MIDI where your plan supports them. Keep the generation prompt, date and license information with the project.
Commercial permission is tool- and plan-specific. Beat Shaper’s Creator plan lists commercial usage rights, while its Starter plan is non-commercial. Soundverse lists commercial licenses for Creator & Pro. InsMelo says commercial rights depend on subscription or license terms. Suno’s Free Plan excludes commercial rights, and Eleven Music says rights vary by plan. Read the current terms for any other service before publishing, sampling or selling the track.

Udio can generate vocal or instrumental songs from text prompts and lyrics and offers timeline editing, but audio, video and stem downloads are disabled during its transition period. Loudly can remix uploaded audio and export separated stems, yet free generated tracks are limited to 30 seconds. These constraints make them better for idea development than a dependable final footwork export unless your account’s current terms provide the files you need.
