How to Remix a Song: A Practical Workflow for Creators

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To remix a song, start with audio you have permission to use, decide what must stay recognizable, then change a few musical elements at a time—such as tempo, genre, vocals, or arrangement. For hands-on control, separate stems and rebalance them; for a faster alternate version, upload the track to a remixer and set the changes you want.

Choose A Remix Workflow

Use stem separation when you want to keep parts of the original performance while changing their balance or building a new arrangement. Use a prompt or control-based remixer when you want a broader transformation. The tools below support different parts of that workflow; their listings do not establish support for every genre or specific song.

Tool Useful For Supported Details Price Listed
Audjust AI Music Remixer Controlled genre and arrangement changes Genre, BPM, vocals, melody, and structure controls; source uploads up to 8 minutes and 50 MB Free plan; paid from $10/month
BeMusic AI Music Remixer Genre variations with tempo control 20+ genres, BPM control, multiple variations; supports tracks up to 8 minutes Free plan; Creator from $12/month
MeloLab AI Remix Mashups and alternate arrangements Mashup mode, genre and tempo controls, stem separation, alternate arrangements Free plan with 8 lifetime credits; paid from $12.42/month
Wondera AI Remix Tools Remixing a song or individual stems Tempo, key, intensity, arrangement, and prompt controls; WAV, MP3, and stem exports Free plan; paid pricing varies by region
AetherWave Music Studio Stem-based editing and mixing in a browser Remixes uploaded tracks with stems, style changes, and alternate arrangements; combines multitrack editing, recording, effects, and AI-assisted mixing Free plan has 0 monthly credits; paid from $4.99/month

How To Remix A Song Step By Step

  1. Choose a source you can use. Pick a file you created, have permission to remix, or are otherwise allowed to use under the applicable terms. For vocals, samples, covers, and commercial release, get any needed consent and check the rights and usage terms for both the source and the platform. Tool availability alone does not establish permission.
  2. Write down what should remain recognizable. Choose one or two anchors, such as the vocal melody, a bass line, or the song’s overall mood. Then choose a clear direction for the new version: for example, “keep the vocal melody, make the arrangement more spacious, and change the tempo.” These are creative directions, not guaranteed genre presets.
  3. Pick the tool by the change you want. For explicit BPM and structure controls, try Audjust; for genre changes and multiple variations, try BeMusic. For mashup-oriented work, try MeloLab. Wondera accepts songs or individual stems and lists controls for tempo, key, intensity, arrangement, and prompts. AetherWave is suited to a stem-based editing workflow with multitrack tools. Check the vendor’s site for supported specifics that are not listed here.
  4. Upload the source and make one pass. Check the listed input limits before uploading: Audjust supports source songs up to 8 minutes and 50 MB; BeMusic supports tracks up to 8 minutes. For other tools, check the vendor’s site for applicable file and duration limits. Set only the changes that serve your direction. If you want the original melody to remain recognizable, avoid asking for every musical element to change at once.
  5. Compare variations against the original. Listen for whether the parts you chose to preserve still work in the new arrangement. If the result moves too far from your intention, adjust one control or prompt at a time—for example, revise tempo while keeping the genre direction steady. BeMusic lists multiple remix variations; other variation counts are not stated here.
  6. Separate stems when you need a more deliberate balance. If the remixer provides stems, export them and adjust the parts in a multitrack workflow. AetherWave lists stem-based remixes and multitrack editing. Wondera lists stem export. For mashups or DJ-style alternate arrangements, MeloLab lists mashup mode and stem edits. Exact stem formats and available stem types can depend on the tool and plan, so check its current terms.
  7. Export and review the finished version. Listen from start to finish for abrupt transitions, masked vocals, or a change that overwhelms the parts you intended to keep. Check the selected plan’s export formats, quality, and usage terms before release. AetherWave lists WAV export and commercial use on paid plans; MeloLab lists WAV lossless export and commercial licensing on paid plans for eligible music. Audjust lists watermark-free exports and commercial use for generated music; that statement does not establish rights to an uploaded source song.

Make The Remix Fit The Song

  • For a vocal-led remix: Keep the vocal as an anchor and change accompaniment or arrangement gradually. Audjust lists vocal and melody controls; Wondera lists remixing uploaded songs or individual stems.
  • For a mashup: Work from music you have permission to combine. MeloLab lists mashup mode and tempo controls, but specific key-matching or beat-sync behavior is not established here; check the vendor’s site before relying on it.
  • For a new genre direction: Name the intended feel and the elements to preserve, then use a genre control where available. BeMusic lists 20+ genres; Audjust and MeloLab list genre changes. Their listings do not establish a particular genre’s availability.
  • For a release: Check the platform’s terms for the exact plan, source material, and intended use. Paid-plan commercial-use statements are not blanket clearance for someone else’s composition, recording, voice, or samples.

Rights And Tool Terms

Get consent for voices and permission for any recording, composition, or sample you use. Check each platform’s terms for your source material, plan, exports, and intended release; rights can depend on the music’s eligibility and the plan. BeMusic says commercial-use eligibility is limited to qualifying plans. MeloLab limits commercial rights to eligible music and paid plans. AetherWave lists commercial use on paid plans, while Audjust’s stated commercial-use support applies to generated music. Check the vendors’ current terms for any case not established here.
