The simplest way to start a new podcast on Spotify is to host it with Spotify for Creators. Create a show, record and edit the episode in a separate app, upload an MP3, M4A or WAV file, complete the episode details, verify your account and publish. Spotify makes a show hosted there available on Spotify automatically. To reach Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music and other apps, enable the show’s RSS feed and submit that feed to each service separately.

If you already host a podcast elsewhere, do not create a duplicate listing. Use Find an existing show in Spotify for Creators to submit or claim the show with its RSS feed. The guide below covers both routes, recording and editing choices, artwork, distribution, promotion, monetization and the fixes for the problems beginners most often encounter.

What do you need before starting?

Prepare these items before opening the creator dashboard:

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

  • A Spotify account and access to its verification email.
  • A show name, a concise description and a clear idea of your audience.
  • At least one completed episode for a new launch.
  • A finished audio file in MP3, M4A or WAV format. Spotify’s recording guidance also lists MOV, MPG and MP4 for supported video workflows.
  • Cover art that remains readable as a small thumbnail.
  • Permission for every voice, sound effect, music recording, image and clip in the episode. Uploading audio that belongs to someone else can violate Spotify’s Terms of Service.

Spotify does not require a full season before you publish. As an editorial choice, recording a trailer or a second episode before launch gives new listeners something else to play when they discover the show and gives you a buffer if production takes longer than expected.

Which hosting route should you choose?

Hosting and listing are different jobs. A host stores the media and publishes an RSS feed; listening apps read that feed. Spotify can do both for a new show, but you can also keep another host and use Spotify as one destination.

Host with Spotify for Creators

This is the shortest path for a first-time creator. Spotify for Creators hosts new audio or video shows, publishes hosted episodes to Spotify automatically and provides Spotify-specific tools such as analytics, comments, polls, trailers, previews, transcripts and chapters. Hosting there is also required for several Spotify-native monetization options.

Keep an independent host

If your show already runs on another RSS-based service, keep that feed. In Spotify for Creators choose Find an existing show, then submit or claim the listing with the feed. This preserves your existing distribution relationships and lets you compare hosting, analytics, team and migration features without moving the media files.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Need Better route
Fastest beginner setup Spotify for Creators hosting
Already have a host and RSS feed Keep the host and submit or claim the show
Spotify Partner Program eligibility Spotify for Creators hosting is currently required
Maximum hosting and migration control Compare independent podcast hosts
Video podcast on Spotify Spotify for Creators or a compatible video workflow
Several shows, large teams or enterprise monetization Consider Spotify’s Megaphone enterprise platform rather than the consumer creator workflow

How do you create a new podcast on Spotify?

  1. Go to Spotify for Creators and sign in.
  2. Select your avatar, then choose Add a new show. On a phone, open the menu first if the avatar menu is not visible.
  3. Choose Create a new show for a brand-new podcast. This route supports audio, video or a mixture of both.
  4. If the show already exists elsewhere, choose Find an existing show instead. Use its RSS feed to submit a new listing or claim an existing Spotify page.

Spotify’s own recording tools are no longer available, so record and edit in another app before uploading. Save the original recording and project file as well as the final export; that makes it possible to repair a mistake without rebuilding the episode.

Which recording and editing tools can you use?

Spotify points creators to different tools for different production styles. Pick the least complicated option that meets your recording needs; a clean, intelligible episode matters more than a large software stack.

1. Spotify for Creators: the simplest publishing hub

What it does: Hosts new audio and video podcasts, accepts finished files, publishes to Spotify and supplies analytics and creator features. Standout features: automatic Spotify publication, comments, polls, trailers, previews, transcripts and chapters. Platforms: web dashboard plus a mobile creator app. Free plan or price: Spotify’s current creator-hosting price is not specified in the cited support documentation; check the live creator signup page for current terms. Limits: it is not a replacement for a recording or editing application, and RSS distribution to other apps must be enabled and submitted separately.

Use this as the center of your workflow when you want the fewest moving parts or plan to use Spotify-native monetization.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Riverside: remote multitrack recording

What it does: Records remote guests in multitrack audio or video and is listed by Spotify as a way to create episodes for import. Standout features: separate tracks make it easier to repair one speaker without changing the other, and the workflow supports both audio and video shows. Platforms: the product is presented as a remote recording service; confirm current device support on the official site at riverside.fm. Free plan or price: current plan prices are not stated in Spotify’s creator guidance. Limits: a solo creator who records locally may not need its remote-production features, and you still need an editor or export step before publishing.

3. Audacity: free desktop audio editing

What it does: Edits recorded audio, making it suitable for trimming silence, removing obvious mistakes and preparing an export. Standout features: a capable desktop workflow without a subscription requirement identified in Spotify’s guidance. Platforms: desktop audio editing; check the current operating-system list at audacityteam.org. Free plan or price: Spotify identifies Audacity as a free editing option. Limits: it does not provide Spotify hosting, RSS distribution or an integrated remote-guest workflow.

4. GarageBand: accessible Apple-device production

What it does: Records and edits podcast audio on Apple devices. Standout features: an approachable multitrack timeline for voice, music you have rights to use and basic production elements. Platforms: Apple devices, with the Mac product page at apple.com/mac/garageband. Free plan or price: Spotify’s guidance does not state a current price or trial. Limits: it is a poor fit for a Windows-first team or browser-based collaboration, and it does not host the finished show.

  • [Useful Accessories] The podcast microphone features durable construction. Anti-vibration shock mount with four rubber bands absorbs tremor from keyboard taps and mouse clicks. The detachable pop filter reduces plosives caused by excited speech during gaming. The stable tripod stand with rubber feet allows for optimal recording positioning via an adjustable thumbscrew, whether you're leaning back or in.

5. Descript: transcript-based editing

What it does: Records remotely and lets you edit spoken content through a transcript. Standout features: useful when removing words, rearranging dialogue or producing a text version alongside the audio. Platforms: use the current product options at descript.com. Free plan or price: current plan prices are not stated in Spotify’s recording guidance. Limits: transcript editing adds complexity if you only need to trim one local file, and the final media still has to be exported and uploaded to Spotify for Creators.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

6. Adobe Audition: advanced audio finishing

What it does: Provides a professional audio-editing environment for detailed cleanup, mixing and mastering. Standout features: suited to creators who need precise control over multiple tracks and restoration work. Platforms: see the current product page at adobe.com/products/audition.html. Free plan or price: Spotify lists Audition as an editing option but does not state a current plan price or trial. Limits: its depth can be unnecessary for a first solo episode and it does not publish or distribute the podcast.

7. Pro Tools: studio-style production

What it does: Handles advanced recording, editing and mixing for a studio-oriented podcast workflow. Standout features: detailed multitrack control for teams that already work in professional audio production. Platforms: current supported systems and editions are listed at avid.com/pro-tools. Free plan or price: Spotify’s creator guidance does not specify current plan prices. Limits: the learning curve and production overhead are excessive for a simple one-microphone show, and hosting remains a separate task.

8. Ferrite: mobile Apple editing

What it does: Edits podcast audio on an Apple mobile workflow. Standout features: useful when you need to cut and assemble an episode without a desktop workstation. Platforms: consult the current product page at wooji-juice.com/products/ferrite. Free plan or price: Spotify’s guidance does not state current pricing. Limits: mobile editing may be less comfortable for long, multitrack sessions, and Ferrite does not host the show.

9. iMovie: straightforward video editing

What it does: Edits video podcasts before uploading them to Spotify. Standout features: a simpler route for cutting camera footage, adding titles and exporting a finished video episode. Platforms: Apple devices, with details at apple.com/imovie. Free plan or price: Spotify’s guidance does not state a current price. Limits: a video episode sent to most other podcast platforms is generally delivered as audio-only, so iMovie is most valuable when Spotify video is part of your plan.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

10. Adobe Premiere: professional video production

What it does: Edits video podcasts with a professional timeline and finishing tools. Standout features: suitable for multi-camera or highly produced shows that need more control than a basic editor. Platforms: current support is listed at adobe.com/products/premiere.html. Free plan or price: Spotify’s creator guidance does not state a current plan price or trial. Limits: the added complexity and production time are difficult to justify for an audio-first beginner.

11. DaVinci Resolve: all-in-one video and audio workflow

What it does: Edits video, audio and color for a polished video podcast. Standout features: one environment can handle picture editing and audio finishing before export. Platforms: see the current product information at blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve. Free plan or price: Spotify lists DaVinci Resolve as a video-editing option but does not state current plan prices. Limits: its broad feature set can slow down a first-time creator who only needs a clean audio file.

How do you record and edit a first episode?

  1. Choose a quiet room and place the microphone consistently. Record a short test, listen for hum or clipping, then begin the full take.
  2. Keep the original recording untouched. Make a working copy for edits and retain the project file.
  3. Remove long silences, obvious mistakes and distracting noise. Do not remove every natural pause; conversational pacing helps listeners follow the discussion.
  4. Add an intro or outro only when it improves orientation. Any music must be cleared for podcast use; a song available to stream on Spotify is not automatically licensed for your episode.
  5. Export the finished audio as MP3, M4A or WAV. Spotify’s recording guidance also lists MOV, MPG and MP4 for video exports.
  6. Play the exported file from beginning to end on the device you will upload from. A file that fails locally will fail in the creator dashboard too.

For a remote interview, record separate tracks when possible, keep a local backup and ask guests for permission to publish their voice and likeness. For video, edit the picture first, then confirm that the final export opens normally before starting a large upload.

How do you upload and publish an episode?

Web workflow

  1. Open your show in Spotify for Creators and select New episode.
  2. Select Select a file to upload the finished audio or video.
  3. Wait for processing. Spotify says there is no file-size limit, but larger files take longer and are more vulnerable to an interrupted connection.
  4. Enter the episode title and description.
  5. Complete the content checks, including whether the episode contains explicit material.
  6. Add season and episode numbers when they apply.
  7. Add episode artwork if you want artwork specific to this release.
  8. Choose Now or Schedule under Publish date.
  9. Publish immediately or save the episode as a draft.

Mobile workflow

  1. Open the creator app and tap Podcast.
  2. Tap +, then Select a file.
  3. Complete the same title, description, content, numbering, artwork and publication settings as on the web.

Account verification is required before publishing the first video or episode. If the upload fails, confirm the format, play the file locally, remove unnecessary embedded metadata or oversized artwork, switch to a stable connection and try the web interface if the mobile upload failed (or the reverse).

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What happens after publishing?

A Spotify-hosted episode goes live on Spotify immediately unless you scheduled a future time. Open the show page in a private browser window, play the episode from start to finish and check the title, description, artwork, numbering, category and explicit setting. Share the show or episode link only after that check.

How do you add or change podcast artwork?

For a show hosted with Spotify, use the web path Settings → Update show art → Upload an image. In the mobile app use Podcast → Edit Details → tap the cover art → choose an image → Save. Spotify says an artwork change typically appears within 24 hours.

Use a simple image with strong contrast and large lettering. A cover that looks attractive on a full-size monitor can become unreadable in a small recommendation tile, so check it at thumbnail size before uploading. Keep the design consistent when creating episode-specific art.

How do you get the podcast on Apple Podcasts and other apps?

  1. Log in at Spotify for Creators.
  2. Open Settings → Availability.
  3. Scroll to RSS Distribution and enable or copy the feed.
  4. Submit that RSS feed separately to Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Castbox, Goodpods, iHeartRadio, Overcast, Pocket Casts, RadioPublic and any other service you want to reach.

The RSS section appears only after the first episode has been published. Enabling it makes the account email address public to anyone with the feed link, so use an address you are comfortable exposing. Public feeds can also be scraped by third-party services, which may create listings you did not submit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Many services process a submission within a few hours, while some manually review new shows. Spotify advises allowing up to 24 hours for many new or updated episodes to appear. A video episode distributed elsewhere is generally audio-only. Music-and-talk episodes that contain songs from Spotify’s catalog are available only to Spotify listeners.

Why might a duplicate listing appear?

A service can scrape a public RSS feed and create a second listing. Contact the platform hosting the duplicate and request removal or consolidation; do not create another show in Spotify for Creators to solve the problem.

How do you submit or claim an existing podcast?

Choose Find an existing show when your podcast already has an RSS feed. If it is already listed on Spotify, claim that listing rather than creating a new one. If it is not listed, submit the feed for a new listing. Claiming unlocks creator functions such as analytics, comments, polls, trailers, previews, transcripts and chapters while your original host continues to deliver the episodes.

How should you promote a new Spotify podcast?

  • Ask listeners to follow the show. Spotify says followers automatically save new episodes to their libraries and may see the show in personalized sections of the app.
  • Share the show link and individual episode links on the social channels where your intended listeners already spend time.
  • Embed the Spotify player on a website, newsletter or community page.
  • Create playlists that place related episodes in a useful listening order.
  • Write specific show notes so a potential listener understands the subject and payoff before pressing play.
  • Publish consistently enough that a new follower knows when to expect the next episode.

Spotify also offers paid promotion through Spotify Advertising. Treat advertising as an advanced purchase: establish a clear show concept and a repeatable publishing rhythm before buying reach.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can you make money from a Spotify podcast?

Yes, but Spotify’s own programs have eligibility rules and market restrictions. A new show should treat monetization as a later stage rather than an immediate feature.

Spotify Partner Program

For creators with a legal address in the United States, Spotify’s current support page lists these requirements: the show must be hosted on Spotify for Creators, have at least three published episodes, reach at least 2,000 global consumption hours on Spotify in the previous 30 days and reach at least 1,000 unique listeners or viewers on Spotify in the previous 30 days. Eligibility also requires compliance with Spotify’s monetization policies.

The program can provide ad revenue and premium video revenue in selected markets. Spotify says creators receive 50% of revenue recognized when a Spotify-monetized ad plays, and at least one ad break must be inserted in an episode to earn ad revenue. This share does not mean that Spotify receives or pays half of every outside sponsorship.

  • Blue VO!CE software: Elevate your streamings and recordings with clear broadcast vocal sound and entertain your audience with enhanced effects, advanced modulation and HD audio samples
  • Four pickup patterns: Flexible cardioid, omni, bidirectional, and stereo pickup patterns allow you to record in ways that would normally require multiple mics, for vocals, instruments and podcasts

  • Positionable design: Pivot the mic in relation to the sound source to optimize your sound quality thanks to the adjustable desktop stand and track your voice in real time with no-latency monitoring

To remain eligible, Spotify says a show must publish an episode and earn at least $10 during any six-month period. Approved creators must complete payout setup. Two-step verification is required after earning $1,000 or more in one month; Spotify says payouts can be held if it is not activated within 30 days of reaching that threshold.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Spotify Subscriptions

Spotify currently says creators need at least two published episodes, at least 100 Spotify listeners in the previous 30 days, Spotify for Creators hosting and creator and audience locations in an available market. Set it up on the web through Monetize → Subscriptions → Get Started, choose the content type, connect Stripe, set the monthly price, select included episodes and mark future releases as Subscription only when publishing. Spotify says creators keep 100% of subscription earnings excluding payment-processing fees.

Other income paths

Direct sponsorships, listener-supported memberships and external services can work independently of Spotify’s programs. Spotify identifies Patreon, Substack and Supporting Cast as examples of external membership platforms. Each adds its own fees, account management and audience-access rules, so use one only when you have a clear benefit for paying members.

Spotify’s public monetization marketing page and its United States support page describe availability differently, and Spotify warns that eligibility can change. Open the Monetize area in your own creator account and use the status shown for your country rather than relying on a permanent worldwide list.

How do you choose the right setup?

Start with the smallest workflow that solves your actual production problem:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Solo audio: record on a phone, tablet or computer, edit in Audacity, GarageBand or Ferrite, then upload to Spotify for Creators.
  • Remote interviews: use Riverside or Descript when separate guest tracks or transcript editing will save time.
  • Advanced audio: choose Adobe Audition or Pro Tools only when you need detailed restoration, mixing or an established studio process.
  • Video podcast: edit in iMovie for a simple Apple workflow, or use Adobe Premiere or DaVinci Resolve for a larger production.
  • Existing show: keep the current host, find the RSS feed and claim or submit the listing instead of moving media unnecessarily.
  • Enterprise operation: evaluate Megaphone for multiple shows, larger teams and advanced monetization rather than using a one-person creator workflow.

The best first setup is usually the one you can repeat every week. Add remote recording, transcript editing, video finishing or paid promotion only when that specific need appears.

Common problems and fixes

The upload fails

Re-export as MP3, M4A or WAV, confirm the file plays locally, remove unnecessary metadata and embedded artwork, use a stable connection and try the other interface. Large files are more likely to be interrupted even though Spotify says there is no file-size limit.

The verification email never arrives

Check the account email address and its spam or filtered folders, then request verification again. You cannot publish the first episode or video until the account has been verified.

The show is on Spotify but missing elsewhere

Confirm that the RSS feed is enabled, submit it to the specific service and check whether that service is reviewing the listing. Allow up to 24 hours for many updates, remembering that some services take longer because they manually review submissions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The RSS option is missing

Publish the first episode first. Spotify does not display the RSS section until a show has at least one published episode.

An episode update is delayed

Check the source host’s feed, wait through the service’s review or refresh window and look for a duplicate listing. Spotify’s general guidance is to allow up to 24 hours for many new or updated episodes.

The episode contains copyrighted music

Remove music for which you do not have podcast rights. A track being available for personal streaming on Spotify does not grant permission to embed it in a podcast; review Spotify’s policy on submitting music via a podcast and obtain the necessary licenses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an RSS feed to publish a new show on Spotify?

No. A new show hosted with Spotify for Creators can publish directly to Spotify without first setting up an external RSS feed. You need the feed when you want to submit that show to other listening services or when you are claiming a show hosted elsewhere.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I publish a podcast from my phone?

Yes. In the mobile creator app, open Podcast, tap + and choose Select a file. Recording and editing still happen in a separate app because Spotify’s former built-in recording tools are no longer available.

Does Spotify send my video podcast to every other app as video?

No. When a video episode is distributed through the RSS feed, other podcast services generally receive an audio-only version. Keep the video workflow if Spotify video is important, but do not promise viewers the same video experience everywhere.

Can I monetize as soon as my first episode is published?

Not through the current Spotify Partner Program or Subscriptions requirements. Those programs require minimum episode counts, recent listeners or viewing, hosting and—depending on the program—consumption hours, unique audience thresholds and an available market.

Is Spotify for Creators a replacement for a professional audio editor?

No. It is the hosting, publishing and creator-management center. Record and edit in a separate tool, keep an original project backup, export a supported file and then use Spotify for Creators to handle the episode metadata, publication and Spotify distribution.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line
