How To Upload Your Own Song To Suno And Extend It

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Suno can take an audio upload and generate an extension, so you can continue an existing song instead of starting from a blank prompt. Keep a free-plan upload to 8 minutes, describe exactly where the continuation should go, and treat each generation as a draft to audition and extend again.

Prepare The Song Before Uploading

  • Use a recording you own or have permission to modify. That includes the composition, recording, vocals, samples and any cover performance.
  • Decide what the new passage must do: add an intro, complete a verse, build a pre-chorus, repeat a chorus with variation, or create an outro.
  • Write down musical anchors for the prompt, such as the section name, mood, instrumentation, vocal approach and the point where the new audio should begin.
  • If you are on Suno’s Free Plan, keep the source at or below its stated 8-minute audio-upload limit. The plan also includes 50 credits per day.

Upload Your Own Song To Suno

  1. Open Suno on the web, iOS or Android and sign in.
  2. Start Suno’s audio-upload workflow and select your song file. The service supports uploaded audio, but the supplied plan details do not establish every accepted file format or a maximum duration for paid plans, so check Suno’s current upload screen if your file is rejected.
  3. Wait for Suno to make the uploaded track available in your workspace. Keep the original file unchanged so you can retry with a different continuation point.
  4. Choose the uploaded track’s extension action. Suno lists extensions, editing, remixing and section replacement among its supported workflows.

Write A Continuation Prompt That Preserves The Song’s Identity

Describe the musical job of the new section rather than asking for a completely new song. Include the section order and the elements that must return. These are prompt examples you can adapt:

  • Finish a verse: “Continue from the final bar of verse 2 into a restrained pre-chorus. Keep the same lyrical point of view and vocal character, then lift into the existing chorus.”
  • Build a second chorus: “Extend the song with an eight-bar instrumental rise, then return to the chorus with fuller drums, added harmony and a clear ending.”
  • Create an outro: “Continue after the last chorus for a 16-bar outro. Reduce the arrangement gradually, keep the central vocal motif, and resolve without introducing a new verse.”

Use terms such as “same song,” “continue from the uploaded ending” and the exact target section to reduce ambiguity. Do not assume the model will reproduce every note, lyric or mix detail; compare each result with the source.

Generate, Compare And Extend Again

  1. Generate the first continuation and listen specifically for the join: timing, vocal entry, drum pickup, harmonic movement and the first downbeat after the boundary.
  2. Keep the version whose transition serves the song, even if its sound needs later editing. If the arrangement changes too abruptly, make the next prompt narrower and name the element that must remain constant.
  3. Use another extension when the new section ends before the song feels complete. Give Suno the latest accepted version and specify the next section, such as “post-chorus into final chorus” or “four-bar turnaround into outro.”
  4. Use section replacement when one passage works poorly but the surrounding structure is useful. Ask for a replacement with the same role and approximate energy as the original passage.
  5. Use remixing when you want a deliberate alternate arrangement rather than a simple continuation. Label the intended change, for example “half-time bridge” or “sparser acoustic second verse,” and listen for whether the song still connects to your uploaded material.

Export And Finish The Arrangement

Suno supports stem export, which can help you continue the edit in a separate production workflow. The Free Plan does not include stem separation, so check the plan attached to your account before planning a stem-based mix. The supplied Suno details do not specify every export format or the exact stem controls; verify those options in the current interface.

Rights And Consent Checks

Only upload material you control or have permission to use. Get consent from vocalists and rights holders before transforming their recordings, and do not treat a cover, sample or cloned-sounding performance as cleared automatically. Suno’s Free Plan does not include commercial rights. Before releasing an extended song, check the current Suno plan terms for the account that generated it and confirm that your source recording, lyrics, voices and samples have separate permission where required.

When The Upload Or Extension Does Not Work

  • The file is too long: On the Free Plan, shorten the source to 8 minutes or less, then upload the complete project in sections if your arrangement permits.
  • The continuation ignores your structure: Name the exact section to add and the section that must follow it; remove unrelated genre or production requests.
  • The join sounds abrupt: Ask for a short instrumental or drum pickup before the next vocal entrance, then compare another generation.
  • You need stems or a particular export: Check the current plan and export panel because the supplied Suno information confirms stem export support but does not list every format or control.
