This policy explains how The Geeks Club, published by Yorker Media, handles information when you visit https://www.thegeeksclub.com, contact us, comment or choose to receive browser notifications. For privacy enquiries, email [email protected].
Information you provide
A contact message can include your name, email address and the information you choose to send. Comments may include a display name, email, website and comment text; approved comments and display names can be public. Please do not submit passwords, payment details or other unnecessary sensitive information.
Technical and security information
Our hosting and security services can process IP addresses, browser and device information, request times and pages requested to deliver the site, identify abuse and troubleshoot problems. Cloudflare provides content delivery and security services; see its Privacy policy. Akismet spam filtering may process submitted comment text, names, email addresses, IP addresses and browser information. See Automattic’s notice for visitors to sites using Akismet.
Cookies and saved preferences
WordPress may use cookies for sign-in and comment conveniences. The site can remember your light or dark appearance choice in your browser. Device comparison tools may remember selected products. These preferences can be cleared through browser settings; clearing site data may reset your selections.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand visits and improve the site. Google uses cookies and similar identifiers to process page views, device/browser details and approximate location. Its Privacy Policy explains this processing. You can manage cookies in your browser and use Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on on supported browsers.
Advertising
Third-party advertising providers, including Google, may use cookies or similar identifiers to select and measure ads using activity on this and other websites. Google and its partners may personalize advertising using those identifiers, subject to applicable choices. You can manage Google ad personalization through My Ad Center, and learn how Google handles information on partner sites at Google’s partner-site policy. Other participating providers offer choices through YourAdChoices. Browser controls and any consent controls presented by an advertising provider provide further choices.
Affiliate links and external services
Product images or advertising resources can be loaded from third-party services. Affiliate links may include identifiers that attribute a visit or purchase to this publication. When you follow an affiliate link to Amazon or Outbyte, an optional support link to Ko-Fi, or another external link, that service’s privacy terms apply. We do not receive your card details from those transactions.
Browser notifications
Notifications require your browser’s permission. A subscription can store a notification endpoint, associated cryptographic keys and technical information such as browser details or an IP address so notifications can be delivered and managed. You can revoke permission in your browser’s site settings. Allowing notifications does not subscribe you to email marketing.
Contact processing and access
Our contact form uses Contact Form 7. Messages are sent through Google’s Gmail SMTP service and delivered to our Microsoft Outlook inbox. These providers process message content, sender information and delivery data to provide their email services. See the Google privacy policy and Microsoft privacy statement. We use the information to assess and respond to your enquiry. Access is limited to the people and service providers involved in operating the publication, handling the request, protecting the site or meeting applicable obligations. Providers can process information in countries other than your own.
Retention and your choices
Information is kept for the purpose for which it is needed, such as an ongoing conversation, moderation, security or recordkeeping. Backups may retain earlier copies until their normal rotation. Contact us to ask about, correct or request deletion of information associated with you; include enough context to locate it. We may need to verify the request and retain records needed for security or applicable obligations. Available rights can depend on your location.
Security and updates
We use access controls and other reasonable measures to protect the site, but no online service can promise absolute security. This policy may change as the site’s services change; the updated date will identify the latest revision. The publication’s Contact page is the route for questions about this policy.
