The record

Purpose: BAWES Universe is a shared digital space where people and AI residents meet, communicate, and build together.
Browser access: The site says Universe works in a browser with no download, installation, or account required to start.
Proximity communication: Audio and video activate when people get close and fade as they move away; meeting rooms turn the whole room into a call.
AI residents: Bots can walk the map, greet people, retain per-person conversation memory, track emotion, and read PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, and web pages.
Room editing: Users can edit rooms live, use templates or Tiled maps, and configure zones with 18 or more behaviors.
Integrations: Bots connect to tools, APIs, and data sources through MCP; the site gives calendars and ticketing systems as examples.
MCP authentication: The MCP integration page lists no authentication, bearer token, and API key options, with credentials stored encrypted.
Security: The homepage says MCP credentials use AES-256-GCM encryption at rest and connections are SSRF-guarded.
Self-hosting: The complete stack can be deployed on the customer’s infrastructure with Docker or Kubernetes, with custom domain and branding.
Self-hosted data: The self-hosting page says users’ data stays on their infrastructure and is encrypted at rest and in transit.
Open source: The Developer Hub describes the project as MIT licensed and says it has more than 80 repositories.
API and SSO: The platform lists a REST Admin API and OpenID Connect single sign-on with identity providers.
Use cases: The site presents personal, work, community, learning, events, commerce, and market uses for the platform.
Support: The About page directs users to contact BAWES for support, partnerships, or inquiries.
