The record

Purpose: The FX Series optimizes, compresses, bonds, balances, and prioritizes high IP traffic to improve broadband quality of experience.
Satellite links: The product targets satellite links across GEO, MEO, and LEO and uses a Protocol Enhancement Proxy at both ends of the link.
Turbostreaming: Turbostreaming accelerates file transfers and web browsing, with the datasheet stating over 150 Mbps per user TCP session and up to 600 Mbps file transfer across 500 ms GEO links.
Network support: The solution supports transparent Layer 2 and Layer 3 operation, VLAN and MPLS stacks, and L2/L3 VPNs including overlapping IP address spaces.
Mobile backhaul: It accelerates 4G/LTE and 5G traffic carried in GTP tunnels and supports concurrent IPv4 and IPv6 traffic.
Traffic management: Its QoS and dynamic traffic shaping can classify traffic by VPN, IP address, protocol, port, and QoS label, and can adapt to modem link capacity.
Optional optimization: Optional capabilities include header compression, packet aggregation, payload compression, GZIP compression, and byte caching.
Link bonding: The FX5020e can bond separate satellite bandwidth segments into a virtual link, including capacity across different bands or satellites.
Management: Management interfaces include a web GUI, console, CLI, SNMPv3, and Comtech NetVue; SNMP and MIBs support third-party network management access.
Security: The datasheet says operator and management access is secured with authentication, access control lists, and SSH/HTTPS encryption.
Resilience: The appliances support fail-to-wire line bypass and optional 1+1 system redundancy; the datasheet lists some redundancy features as unavailable on the FX1005ev.
License limit: Sessions above the appliance’s allocated license tier pass through unaccelerated, subject to the appliance’s traffic forwarding capacity.
Intended users: The datasheet names ISPs, mobile network operators, satellite service providers, and communications service providers as typical users.
Company background: Comtech says it was founded in Smithtown, New York, in 1967 and is now headquartered in Chandler, Arizona.
