Encyclopedia of Alabama is a free online reference resource covering Alabama's history, culture, geography, and natural environment. Its articles range across people, events, sports, art, literature, industry, government, plant and animal life, agriculture, and recreation. Contributors from academic scholars to field scientists write or adapt material for the Encyclopedia, and the site says it adds new content regularly. Articles may include multimedia, including material shared by organizational partners. Readers can search or browse by categories, articles, authors, events, organizations, people, places, collections, galleries, and quick facts. Collections connect entries around themes in Alabama history, people, and culture; image galleries link visual material about art, culture, and historical events to related articles. Citation tools and educator resources are available. Noncommercial educational reproduction is permitted with appropriate citation and credit. Commercial reproduction requires prior permission, granted case by case. Auburn University administers the editorial office through its Office of University Outreach in partnership with University Libraries.
