Lyric Genie

Overview

Rather than focusing only on generating lyrics from prompts, Lyric Genie supports a broader writing process: organize a draft into song sections, work with rhyme and AI tools, and collaborate in real time. Contributors are identified line by line, which helps writers keep track of shared drafts. The app is built for professional songwriting sessions, but its one-language support makes it a poor fit for multilingual work.

Audio import accepts M4A, MP3, WAV, AIFF, AAC, and FLAC files, converting them to M4A on the device. Freestyle mode turns hummed placeholder syllables into lyrics while preserving their phrasing, offering a way to carry a vocal idea into a draft. Lyric sheets can include credits, PRO splits, and IPIs, and export as a PDF or public URL.

Key features

Structured writing and AI assistance

Song sections such as verses, choruses, and bridges keep a lyric organized as it develops. AI suggestions can use a song’s mood, theme, and reference artists as context; prompt generation and rewriting give writers options when a line stalls. These tools are most useful as support for a writer’s process, not a substitute for deciding what belongs in the song.

Co-writing and session materials

Real-time collaboration and line-by-line attribution make shared writing more legible than an unattributed draft. Exportable sheets can carry credits, PRO splits, and IPIs, which suits sessions where documenting contributions matters. The app stores song data in Google Firebase and says transmission uses industry-standard encryption. Its privacy policy names Anthropic’s Claude API for AI features and says lyrics and other creative content remain the user’s intellectual property.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes unlimited songs, basic rhymes and synonyms, 60 minutes of voice recordings, and real-time collaboration. It also allows 30 rhyme lookups per day but only 7 main writing-tool requests total. That makes it a useful way to organize songs and collaborate, but a weak fit for anyone expecting to use AI tools regularly.

Pro Monthly costs 4.99 USD per month and adds Wish Workshop AI-powered brainstorming, smart rhyming, a thesaurus and sound-alikes, 1,000 minutes of voice recordings, and 5,000 AI requests per month. Rhyme lookups are unlimited. It is the practical choice for frequent writers who need substantial AI and recording capacity without committing for a year.

Pro Yearly costs 49.99 USD per year and includes everything in Free and Pro Monthly, with two months free. It suits writers who expect to keep using the app; those unsure about their ongoing needs can start with the monthly plan instead. A 14-day trial is offered. Support is available by email at [email protected], with a typical response time of 24–48 hours.

Platforms

Lyric Genie is available for iOS and macOS. Its on-device conversion of imported audio is useful for supported files, but the app’s platform range does not cover Android or web use.

Who it's for

Lyric Genie fits songwriters who develop structured drafts, bring vocal ideas or audio into the process, and collaborate with others. It is particularly compelling for sessions where contributor attribution and shareable lyric sheets matter. Writers who need more than one supported language, or who depend on frequent AI assistance but want to stay on the free plan, should consider another option.

Pros and cons

Pros

• Real-time co-writing with line-by-line contributor attribution helps collaborators follow who wrote what.
• Freestyle preserves the phrasing of hummed placeholder syllables when turning them into lyrics.
• PDF and public-URL exports can include credits, PRO splits, and IPIs.
• Pro offers 5,000 AI requests per month and unlimited rhyme lookups for 4.99 USD per month.

Cons

• The Free plan’s 7 total main writing-tool requests sharply limits ongoing AI use.
• Support for one language excludes multilingual songwriting workflows.
• Availability is limited to iOS and macOS.

Alternatives

AI Lyric Generators is a broader category to explore if you are comparing lyric-generation tools. Choose Prompt Maschine if you want an option available on Android as well as iOS and macOS, with a free allowance of three generation operations per day and two variants per generation. RhymesLab is a web-based alternative with a free allowance of five songs and 25 sections per month, plus 15 Ghost chats per day. For an iOS option that includes three AI beat generations per month on its free plan, consider FlowTight; its Pro monthly plan costs 7.99 USD per month.

LyricDraft is a web-based alternative with 18 one-time signup credits and free manual edits; its Songwriter plan costs 5.00 USD per month. Consider Lacuna if you want a tool available through web, iOS, an extension, or API. Hit Station offers a web-based free plan with five new songs and 50 AI generations per month for personal use. LandChords is another web option, with a free plan limited to two songs, seven sections, 5 MB of storage, and a two-track Vocal Studio. RHYMEBOOK is available on Android, iOS, and web.

Verdict

Choose Lyric Genie if you want a structured songwriting notepad that brings real-time collaboration, vocal input, AI assistance, and session-ready exports together. The monthly Pro plan is a reasonable step up for writers who need more than the free tier’s seven total writing-tool requests. Look elsewhere if you need multilingual support, Android or web access, or a free plan with room for sustained AI use.
