The record

Purpose: Rosalind teaches bioinformatics and programming through problem solving.
Automatic checking: Each problem is checked automatically after a user submits a solution.
Problem tracks: The site includes Python Village, Bioinformatics Stronghold, Bioinformatics Armory, Bioinformatics Textbook Track, and Algorithmic Heights.
Problem topics: Stronghold problems cover topics including mass spectrometry, sequence alignment, genome assembly, phylogeny, probability, and string algorithms.
Beginner support: Python Village introduces programming basics for people new to programming.
Who it serves: Rosalind describes its intended learners as biologists developing programming skills and programmers new to computational problems in molecular biology.
Classroom tools: Faculty can create classes, assign problems, track student progress, review submissions, and access a grade sheet.
Faculty access: Professors can request a Faculty account, and the FAQ says Rosalind Faculty is free.
Submission workflow: Users may run code on their own computers and upload or paste the resulting answer into Rosalind; the site accepts any programming language.
Problem limits: Problems have time limits, and users must wait after an incorrect answer before trying again.
Faculty limitation: The Faculty page says plagiarism checking was being implemented and instructors had to compare student code themselves in the meantime.
Funding: Rosalind says it is 100% community funded and invites support through Patreon.
Project team: The site describes Rosalind as a joint project of the University of California at San Diego and Saint Petersburg Academic University, along with the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Open source: The FAQ says the software behind Rosalind was not open sourced at the time of writing and that the team planned to release the engine when it was ready and documented.
