YugabyteDB Anywhere (YBA) is a self-managed database-as-a-service for deploying and operating YugabyteDB universes. It supports the YSQL and YCQL interfaces and can be deployed on Linux hosts on premises, public clouds including AWS, Azure, GCP and OCI, or Kubernetes. Teams can arrange deployments across regions, availability zones and cloud providers, with clusters designed to tolerate failures at those levels or at individual nodes. For disaster recovery, xCluster supports asynchronous replication between two universes. YBA handles online scaling, upgrades, configuration changes, operating-system patching, backups and point-in-time recovery. Administrators can use its GUI, REST APIs or Terraform provider; documentation also lists a CLI and Kubernetes Operator. Security controls include encryption in transit and at rest, LDAP and OIDC authentication, role-based access and TLS certificate options. Internet-connected and air-gapped deployments are supported. A universe has one primary cluster and may have one attached read replica. The evaluation license is 0.00 USD per free for up to 32 consecutive calendar days; production use requires a commercial license, with pricing on request.

Who it is for

YBA suits teams operating YugabyteDB across on-premises, cloud or Kubernetes environments, especially when they need multi-region deployment, resilience or disaster recovery. It is aimed at administrators who want GUI, API or Terraform-based operations.

What is good

  • Supports on-premises, public cloud and Kubernetes deployments
  • Offers online scaling, backups and point-in-time recovery
  • Supports asynchronous replication between two universes
  • Includes role-based access and TLS certificate options

What to know first

  • Production use requires a commercial license
  • A universe allows only one primary cluster and one read replica
  • Evaluation license lasts up to 32 consecutive calendar days

Verdict

YBA brings deployment, operational tasks and resilience controls for YugabyteDB into one management platform. The free evaluation is time-limited, and production licensing requires a quote.
