The record

Purpose: Zellij is a terminal workspace for developers, operations oriented users, and others who use the terminal.
Pane management: It supports tiled, floating, and stacked panes, with mouse and keyboard controls for moving and resizing them.
Layouts: KDL layouts can define panes, tabs, commands, and plugins to automate and share workspace setups.
Session management: Users can switch between named sessions and resurrect sessions with their pane structure and commands, including after reboots.
Browser access: A built in web server lets users access and share sessions in a browser, with authentication and remote access over HTTPS.
Web server security: The web server is off by default, requires authentication, enforces HTTPS for network access, and its documentation recommends a reverse proxy for untrusted networks because it has no rate limiting.
Plugins: Plugins use WebAssembly and can be written in any language that compiles to WASM; Rust has an official SDK and scaffolding tools.
Terminal integrations: Zellij works with existing terminal emulators, shells such as bash, zsh, and fish, and editors including vim, neovim, emacs, and helix.
Command panes: Command panes expose exit codes and let users rerun commands with Enter or configure them to start suspended in layouts.
Remote collaboration: Sessions can be accessed remotely over HTTPS from a browser or another terminal, and read only tokens let observers view without interacting.
Platforms: Prebuilt binaries are available for Linux, macOS, and Windows; the web client supports browser access, including from phones.
Hosted offering: Zellij.online is a commercial, end to end encrypted hosted session sharing service run by Zellij maintainers and was described as being in closed beta.
Privacy: The maker says Zellij has no ads, telemetry, or data collection and does not require an account or online presence.
Support: The maker directs users to its documentation, tutorials, GitHub issues, GitHub discussions, and social media for help and feedback.
