The record

Purpose: ZipGrade lets teachers grade students’ paper multiple-choice quizzes with a mobile app and analyze the results.
Scanning: Teachers can scan answer sheets using an iPhone, iPad, or Android device, and scanning does not require an internet connection.
Answer sheets: The service supports 20-, 50-, and 100-question forms, plus custom forms with configurable questions, answers, and labels.
Question types: Answer sheets can support multiple choice, true/false, matching, and gridded numeric entry.
Reporting: ZipGrade provides item analysis, including Discriminant Factor, and lets users export captured data to CSV.
Student portal: Teachers can assign online quizzes through the Student Portal and post results from online or in-person quizzes.
Integrations: Teachers can choose to export quiz results and student data in file formats or directly to gradebook software or a learning management system.
Data security: ZipGrade says user-managed data is encrypted in transit with SSL/TLS and at rest on its servers with AES-256.
Sync controls: Teachers can disable syncing; this keeps user-managed data from syncing to ZipGrade servers, but also disables most website features and removes ZipGrade backups for that data.
Children’s privacy: ZipGrade’s children’s privacy policy says it is designed to comply with COPPA and that a child accesses the Student Portal and quizzes through their teacher.
Support: The company says support emails are answered by its founder, and lists [email protected] for feedback.
Who it is for: ZipGrade describes the mobile apps and website as primarily intended for teachers, with students able to use the Student Portal.
Headquarters: New Lenox, Illinois, United States
