Suno does not automatically own every song you make. Suno says songs created while you are a paid subscriber are yours to keep and use, including as video background music or in an album. Its Pro plan advertises full commercial rights. Free-plan creations do not include commercial rights, according to the plan details supplied for this article. That answers ownership of the output; the supplied information does not establish who owns Suno the company.

What “Owns Suno AI Music” Means

There are three separate questions: what your Suno plan permits, what copyright law protects, and whether another person’s identity or recording is involved. Treating a paid plan as automatic copyright protection skips the last two questions.

Plan Rights And Limits

Situation What Is Established Practical Meaning
Free Plan Freemium access; 50 credits per day; 8-minute audio upload; no commercial rights or stem separation. Use it for experimentation unless Suno’s current terms give you different permission. Do not assume you can monetize a free-plan track.
Pro Plan Paid from $8 per month; 2,500 credits per month; up to 20 song downloads per month; full commercial rights are advertised. Keep records showing the subscription period and plan when each commercially used song was created.
Premier Plan Includes Pro benefits plus Suno Studio, a multitrack editor, MIDI export, Persona Voices and early feature access. Studio access is limited to Premier. The supplied information does not state a Premier price or a separate ownership rule.

Suno also says both paid plans receive a 20% discount with annual billing. Check Suno’s current terms before releasing work because plan wording, download limits and commercial permissions can change.

Does Copyright Belong To You?

Not necessarily for the entire generated recording. The U.S. Copyright Office says material generated entirely by AI is not copyrightable, and a prompt alone does not make the prompter the author. In a mixed work, only the human-authored parts may be protected. If you register a work containing more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material, you must disclose that material and describe your contribution. Read the Copyright Office’s AI report and registration guidance.

That means Suno’s commercial-rights permission and copyright ownership are different questions. A paid subscriber may have permission under Suno’s terms to exploit a track commercially while still having limited copyright protection in AI-generated sections.

A Practical Suno Ownership Workflow

  1. Choose the plan before creation. If you need commercial use, create the final version under a paid plan whose current terms provide that permission.
  2. Keep the evidence. Save the prompt, lyrics, uploaded material, project or stem files, creation date and subscription receipt. Suno’s Pro details include stem separation and audio uploads of up to eight minutes; Free does not include stem separation.
  3. Add human-authored material deliberately. Write or substantially edit lyrics, record your own performance, arrange sections, or make other creative contributions you can identify. Those contributions are the part most likely to support a copyright claim under the Copyright Office guidance.
  4. Clear every outside element. Use only voices, samples, lyrics and recordings you have permission to use. Obtain consent before imitating an identifiable person’s voice, and follow Suno’s terms for Persona Voices or other identity features.
  5. Document disclosures at release. Keep a note describing the AI-generated portion and your human contribution. A distributor or platform may request that information even when Suno’s plan permits commercial use.

Prompt And Editing Example For A Defensible Project

Start with a production brief such as: “Create a 90-second instrumental bed for a developer tutorial, restrained percussion, clear space for narration, no recognizable artist imitation.” Then write your own narration and edit the arrangement around it. If you replace sections, remix, extend the track or export stems, save those edits and identify which parts you authored. Do not describe the result as wholly human-composed when the core audio was generated by Suno.

Voice, Cover And Platform Constraints

Commercial permission does not grant consent from a singer, songwriter or recording owner. Do not upload or imitate material without the necessary permission, and check the applicable Suno terms for covers, voices and samples.

Release platforms add their own rules. Spotify says vocal impersonation is allowed only when the impersonated artist authorized it, supports DDEX AI disclosures in credits, and labels some possibly AI-generated artist identities with an AI Persona badge. YouTube requires disclosure of realistic altered or synthetic content that could be mistaken for a real person’s performance, and its inauthentic-content policy targets mass-produced or repetitive uploads. Read the current requirements at Spotify’s AI policy announcement and Spotify’s AI Persona badge announcement.

What The Available Evidence Does Not Establish

The supplied information identifies Suno as founded in 2022 with headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts, but it does not name shareholders, a parent company or a definitive corporate owner. It also does not state a Premier price or promise that every paid-plan output receives copyright protection. For those questions, consult Suno’s current legal and plan pages before signing a contract or publishing a release.
