Can You Monetize AI Music? A Creator’s Rights Checklist

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Yes, AI music can be monetized, but permission depends on the tool’s plan and license, the way you use the track, and the platform where you publish it. A paid plan may grant commercial-use rights without giving you copyright ownership; in the United States, the Copyright Office says music generated entirely by AI is not copyrightable, while human-authored parts of a mixed work may be protected.

What “Monetize” Means For An AI Track

Commercial use and copyright ownership are separate questions. A license may allow you to use a track in a monetized video, podcast, game, ad, or release, while the provider retains ownership or gives you a non-exclusive license. Check whether the terms cover your specific use, whether the license continues after cancellation, and whether the track can be distributed or sublicensed as part of your project.

The U.S. Copyright Office says prompts alone do not make someone the author of AI-generated material. It says works generated entirely by AI are not copyrightable, while human-authored contributions in a mixed work may be protected. Applicants registering a work containing more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material must disclose it and describe the human contribution. These are U.S. copyright facts; check the rules that apply to your location and intended release. U.S. Copyright Office AI report and guidance

Eleven Music Generated tracks are described as cleared for broad commercial use. Commercial rights vary by subscription tier; the listed limitation excludes film, TV, and studio games. Check the terms for your intended project.
Soundverse AI Beat Maker A commercial license is available for releasing and monetizing tracks; Creator & Pro plans list commercial licenses. The free signup tier starts with 1,000 tokens. Confirm which paid plan and license cover your release.
Loudly The product describes generated music as commercially licensed; its Personal plan lists commercial licensing. Paid licensing rights depend on plan terms, and free generated tracks are limited to 30 seconds.
Mureka The product describes downloads as having full commercial rights across platforms and projects. The Basic Music & Speech price listed is $8 per month billed annually at $96. Verify the current plan terms for your track.
Musicful Downloaded tracks receive a non-exclusive perpetual license for content such as videos, podcasts, and audiobooks; the product also describes commercial licensing and a certificate. Musicful retains ownership. Commercial use is limited to Standard and Pro; Free and Basic are non-commercial.
AIVA The Pro plan is described as granting full copyright of compositions. Standard is described for monetization on YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, and Instagram. The Free plan is non-commercial. Standard monetization is limited to the specified social platforms; vocal generation is unavailable.
Soundful Tracks are described as carrying royalty-free licenses suitable for professional and commercial use. Global Tracks, Loops, and tracks under Standard and Content Creator are non-exclusive. An exclusive license is stated for active Music Creator Plus users or tracks whose copyrights have been purchased.
Zona The product says paid plans include commercial-use rights and that tracks come with full commercial-use rights. There is no free plan; the first song offer provides 10 credits for one song in two versions. Check which subscription terms apply to your exported track.
AI Makes Song Paid plans unlock commercial rights for videos, podcasts, and games. Free users can test and publish with attribution to AI Makes Song. The supplied information does not specify the paid plan terms; check with the vendor.
AI Game Music Generator The site describes downloaded tracks as having a commercial license. The free offer provides 60 signup credits for five tracks, which cannot be kept private; songs are owned by aigamemusic. Verify the license terms for any commercial release.

How To Check A Track Before You Earn From It

  1. Write down the use. Specify whether the track will accompany a monetized video, podcast, game, ad, client project, or music release. Do not assume permission for one use covers another.
  2. Check the plan and track date. Save the vendor’s terms and your plan details when you generate and download the music. Confirm whether commercial permission is tied to the plan, and what happens if you change or cancel it.
  3. Check exclusivity and ownership. Establish whether you receive ownership, a non-exclusive license, or permission for particular uses. If you need exclusive music, make sure the stated terms actually provide it.
  4. Keep evidence of your contribution. Save prompts, drafts, edits, arrangement decisions, and any human-performed or human-written parts. The Copyright Office says registration applicants must disclose more than minimal AI-generated material and describe their human contribution.
  5. Confirm distribution and platform requirements. Check the current rules of the distributor or service where you plan to publish, including any required attribution or synthetic-content disclosure. YouTube requires a label for realistic altered or synthetic content that could be mistaken for a real person’s performance.

Make The Music Fit The Paid Project

A track intended to earn money needs to fit its placement as well as its license. For a video bed, decide whether it should leave room for speech; for a game, define the scene and intended energy; for a podcast, specify whether you need a short intro or a longer background bed. These are creative briefs, not claims that every generator supports every duration, control, or export. Check a product’s listed capabilities before choosing it.

For example, a brief could read: “Instrumental background for a 90-second tutorial video; steady, understated electronic pulse; no vocals; leave the center clear for narration; resolve cleanly at the end.” A game brief could read: “Tense exploration cue for a submerged research station; restrained low pulse, sparse metallic texture, gradual build; no recognizable melody; loop-ready ending.” Treat these as starting points, then check whether the tool can create the needed form and whether your edits materially shape the final composition.

If the project needs a recognizable voice, a cover, or a sample, get appropriate consent and check the tool’s terms and the rights for the source material. A license for generated music does not establish permission to imitate a real person or reuse someone else’s recording.

Platform Rules Can Affect Monetization

YouTube renamed its “repetitious content” monetization rule to the “inauthentic content” policy on July 15, 2025. The policy targets mass-produced, repetitive, or template-based uploads rather than AI use by itself. On July 20, 2026, YouTube clarified examples involving generic or repetitive content, off-putting or distressing content, and AI personas discussing sensitive topics. A realistic synthetic performance that could be mistaken for a real person’s performance requires YouTube’s altered-or-synthetic content label.
