One of the most useful features the Google introduced with the Android Oreo is the PiP Picture-in-Picture) mode. The feature allows users to play or use any app over any other app, on a floating window. It has become much better than split screen, as we can move the floating window all along the interface. The same is available with the Youtube app. Here is how to enable YouTube PiP mode anywhere in the world.
How to enable YouTube PiP mode anywhere
The PiP Mode on Youtube was introduced only for Youtube Red paid subscription users, which is available all over the world. But recently, the parent company of Android, as well as Youtube, has publicized the free version of PiP mode for every user. It is currently available in the US. So, if you are from the US, you do not have to go through any extra settings in order to allow PiP Mode. You can quickly enter the youtube app and start using it.
How to enable YouTube PiP Mode in the US
As we mentioned above, it is possible to get the Youtube PiP Mode for free in the US. But if you are not getting it, try the method below.
Step 1: Update the Youtube app to the latest version from the Google Play Store. Launch it, and then tap on the profile icon at the top right corner.
Step 2: Choose “Settings” from the window. You can see the “Picture-in-Picture Mode” option in General menu. You need to toggle on the feature.
Step 3: Come back to the Youtube app home page and start watching videos. While watching, tap on the home button to get PiP Mode. Your Youtube playback window will shrink to a small floating widget, where you will be able to use the Youtube app in the background.
You can also do several actions right from the floating widget. Double tapping it will take you back to the full-screen app.
How to enable YouTube PiP Mode outside the US
If you are outside in the US, you need a Youtube Red subscription to get Youtube PiP Mode. Here is how you can quickly get it for free.
Step 1: Download any good VPN from Google Play Store. You can choose from our Top 10 VPN Apps. Open the VPN client and connect to any United States Server. (Make sure you have a fast Internet connection to get consistent streaming).
Step 2: Go to Settings > Apps > All > Youtube > Force Stop. If you cannot find the Force Stop button, open the app and return to the settings. Wipe the app data by tapping “Clear Data” button.
Step 3: Open Youtube App and tap the profile icon at the top. Tap on Settings > General > Change Country to “United States.” Again go to device settings and force stop the app.
Step 4: Open the Youtube app and watch a few videos. After a few minutes of viewing (15-20 minutes at least), choose any other video and tap the home button. As for the US users, the app will shrink and float over other apps. Or, you can use any other app in full screen while the Youtube plays on the top.
Please note that you need to stay connected to the US Server in VPN. Otherwise, the PiP feature will disappear. Hope you found this helpful.
