Building a website requires knowledge of programming languages, coding, CSS scripts, etc. However, this may be not be sufficient to make a website successful. There are lot of factors involved in web designing apart from technical knowledge.
One has to do a thorough research before building a website for a particular niche. Website should catch eyes of a visitor at one glance and the visitor should be compelled to go through the content and material of the website. Unfortunately, designers do not pay attention to usability of the website and tends to do silly mistakes which in turn ruins websites.
So, In this article we’ll be discussing some common Web Design mistakes that designers do which in turn harms a particular website. I will offer a solution for the same.
Content is king and it’s the major reason which drives traffic to your website. Although you are writing a good articles, but unable to draw visitors attention towards it then you need to organize it properly.
Your content should be easily scan-able and user should understand within seconds what you are trying to explain. It should be properly organized in paragraphs, headings and sub –headings should be used wherever necessary, key points should be present in bullet form, keywords should be highlighted in ‘Bold’ or ‘Italics’ and so on. Create different Web pages for offering different services.
Background, Fonts and Colors
Your website’s background, fonts, graphics and colors is another reason for not gaining visitors attention. The background of the website should be chosen wisely. Generally the light colored background with dark text is preferred as it suits the eyes and catches attention.
Also, the fonts should be used accordingly. They should be readable and should not irritate the visitors. Fancy, tiny fonts should be avoided as it may distract the visitors from reading your content. The use of frames should also be prohibited as it may confuse the user and increase the website load time.
Website navigation should be smooth and seamless. Do not insert too many links on texts, header, footer, sidebar or any other section of the website. If user is unable to gain enough from your website in 2-3 clicks, then he’s definitely going for the other option.
The user should get the desired information without much confusion and of course Clicks on the unnecessary links. Remove any dead links from the page and provide a sitemap so that the visitor can easily find what they are looking for.
Avoid Inserting too Many Ads
Place advertisement on website without cramming up. Too many advertisements leave a negative impression on the visitors and it is not considered user friendly.
Do not ever use Pop-up ads or Full page ads as it irritates and frustrates the visitor. I am not against Google Adsense, Affiliate Marketing or Direct Advertising, but do it in a tasteful manner without doing any harm to your visitors.
Do Not Always Ask For Registration
Asking for registration or subscription while landing at every web page of your website may annoy the visitors. Do not put additional pressure on your visitors by displaying registration form at every page as it usually proves harmful rather than being useful.
You cannot force the visitor to subscribe your website instead create a subscription box on the sidebar of your web page. And if the user likes your content then he’s definitely going to register for your website automatically.
I think you are now well aware of the Web Designing mistakes. These mistakes are silly and easily avoidable. I hope you can now build a successful website for your firm/business.
